TITLE: | Recommendation to add 3 characters to Sinhala set |
SOURCE: | Michael Everson |

0DB2 | SINHALA LETTER DEMALA NAYANNA
0DBC | SINHALA LETTER DEMALA RAYANNA
0DC7 | SINHALA LETTER DEMALA LAYANNA |
DEMALA means 'Tamil' in Sinhala; these are the dotted characters for Tamil (NNNA, RRA, LLLA). It is possible that the names could be improved. In Crete, the Sri Lankan delegation did not feel they could add Tamil characters in addition to the other characters which were added as a superset of their national standard during the meeting without further discussion in Sri Lanka.
During the ad-hoc meeting in Sinhala in Crete, Glenn Adams and I, representing Unicode and Ireland respectively, did agree to leave the characters out for the FPDAM, but said that that, "failing a detailed exposition from Sri Lanka as to why they should not be coded" they would be requested at a later date.
It may be the case that National Bodies will wish to request the restoration of these characters on the FPDAM ballot which is to be sent out soon.
