Monofon: U+E800 - U+E82F

Proposal 1997-02-21.

Monofon (aka Pictographic Monofon, aka Pictographic Monoline Phonemic Script) is yet another proposed orthography for English. The script is not pictographic; the letters are mostly variants of Latin letters, chosen for their alleged resemblance to objects whose English names include the phoneme represented by the letter. For example, the "a" of "avian" is represented by a glyph which looks vaguely like a bird.

The term "monoline" refers to the fact that each letter can be written using a pen without ever lifting the pen from the paper.

The letter names are the words chosen by the system designer to indicate the sounds of the letters; thus MONOFON LETTER AVIAN represents the sound the sound of "a" in the word "avian".

Numerals and punctuation are those of the Latin alphabet.
