Multilingual Macintosh Support

Apple’s software has always been at the forefront of multilingual computing. Even when Apple software did not ship with tools for certain languages, the framework has been there to allow developers to provide fonts and input methods for them. Since 1993, I have been developing such software.

Macintosh Software for OS X

Mac OS X now provides full Unicode support, which means that it is even easier to work with languages than it used to be. I have made the following packages available which will enable you to type your favourite languages with ease. Each package is available for €35.00 (+ VAT if you’re in Ireland). OS 10.3 Input Methods

Inuktitut Input Methods. Inuktitut is now supported by keyboards shipping with OS 10.3.

Armenian Input Methods. Armenian is now supported by keyboards shipping with OS 10.3.

Sami Input Methods 2.0. Supports Inari Sami, Skolt Sami, and Lule Sami. Northern Sami is now supported by keyboards shipping with OS 10.3. (under development)

Celtic Input Methods 2.0. Supports Scottish Gaelic, Manx, Breton, and Cornish. Irish and Welsh are now supported by keyboards shipping with OS 10.3. (under development) See also the CeltScript pages for Gaelic font support.

Georgian Input Methods 2.0. (under development)

Turkic Cyrillic Input Methods 2.0. Supports Azärbaycan, Bashkir, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Uzbek, Qazaq, Tajik, Tatar, and Türkmen. (under development)

Turkic Latin Input Methods 2.0. Supports Azärbaycan, Bashkir, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Qazaq, Tatar, and Türkmen. (under development)

Maltese & Esperanto Input Methods 2.0. Supports Maltese and Esperanto. (under development)

Free WorldScript Macintosh Software for OS 7 and OS 8

These packages will install WorldScript or Modified Roman software to enable you to work in a number of languages. Some of the WorldScript software may run on versions of OS 9, but I do not guarantee anything and don't think I would run the software under OS 9 myself. You can only have one Modified Roman package installed at a time. Click on the name of a package to download it. You may need to get StuffIt Expander or StuffIt Lite to decode these utilities. You can get them from Aladdin at http://www.aladdinsys.com

Roman Utilities. The ROM Font Fixer! Installs versions of Chicago, Geneva, and Monaco which have full character sets in their bitmaps, and resources which override the fonts on the ROM chip. No more boxes instead of accented capital letters! (468K, 1997-08-31)
